DON'T MAKE FEARLESSNESS YOUR GOAL

Sometimes fear can feel so real - connect with the part inside of you that is constant in nature and not changing like the mind; this part can be experienced as peace and deep fulfilment.

Why not make fearlessness your goal?

A goal (here I am talking about big goals, not just “plans” where you can set out a few clear steps) is the trick of the mind to create misery. Create a goal and then you are miserable because anxiety arises: How to achieve it? I have not achieved it yet. You go on searching and searching and you never achieve it. You remain miserable and you go on missing all the joys of life because your eyes are focused on the future. You are here and your eyes are focused on the future.

Try to understand this: The body is here but the mind is not here. That is the dichotomy, that is the problem.

So then what could we make a goal? Maybe no goal at all, but a deep intention - a resolve - “I am in the present moment, I practice meditation”, or “I live in trust”

Meditation is when you are not doing anything at all, when the mind is not functioning at all. That nonfunctioning of the mind is meditation. One just simply is. In that is-ness, the ego disappears, and with the ego the shadow of the ego disappears. That shadow is fear.

Meditation is nothing but a way to learn how to do a thing totally - once you have learnt make your whole life a meditation.

A great Zen Master has said:”When sitting sit, when walking walk, above all don’t wobble.

…. AND GET OUT OF THAT BOX”.
